NewJeans Terminates Exclusive Contract with ADOR
🔗 2024-11-28 NewJeans Emergency Press Conference Full Transcript
We would like to announce that the exclusive contract between NewJeans and ADOR will be terminated starting at midnight on the 29th.
We requested corrections regarding the exclusive contract violations. As I mentioned earlier, the correction period will end at midnight, and as you may have seen yesterday, all we received was a reluctant statement that began with “This is in compliance with the actions required by the formal notice,” along with continued emails that were merely for show with no intention of making improvements—not a single one of our requested corrections was actually made.
We have communicated our position numerous times through our lives and through this formal notice, but this insincere attitude has exhausted us, and we felt once again that they have no genuine care for us and absolutely no intention of listening to our demands.
Business hours have ended, and there are less than four hours remaining until midnight, yet no corrections have been made whatsoever. Therefore, all five of us will terminate the exclusive contract the moment it becomes midnight on the 29th.
Hello, this is Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein.
The five of us are terminating our exclusive contract with ADOR as of November 29, 2024, and plan to continue our activities freely, independent of HYBE and ADOR.
As the agency that signed an exclusive contract with us, ADOR has an obligation to faithfully manage us for our benefit. On November 13, 2024, the five of us made a final demand to ADOR to rectify their breach of obligations. Although the 14-day correction period has passed, ADOR refused to make corrections, and none of the issues we demanded be rectified have been resolved.
Over the past several months, the five of us have made multiple correction demands to ADOR. However, ADOR has consistently responded with evasion and excuses. We make it clear that genuine communication based on mutual respect has not been achieved due to ADOR.
In our correction demands, the five of us requested specific actions from ADOR. However, ADOR took no action to make corrections even after business hours had passed, and given the remaining correction period, it became physically impossible for corrections to be made. This is why the five of us urgently held a press conference yesterday, and ADOR’s claim that we did not wait for their response is nothing but wordplay.
The five of us hereby notify ADOR of the termination due to ADOR’s breach of obligations under the exclusive contract and failure to rectify these breaches within the correction period. This termination notice is made pursuant to the exclusive contract, and the five of us have personally signed the termination notice document. The notice takes effect immediately upon reaching ADOR on November 29, 2024. In other words, the exclusive contract is no longer in effect from that point. Therefore, there is no reason to file for an injunction to terminate the exclusive contract, and we are free to engage in activities starting November 29, 2024.
Furthermore, the five of us have faithfully fulfilled our obligations under the exclusive contract as artists affiliated with ADOR. Since the termination of the exclusive contract is solely due to ADOR’s breach of obligations, the five of us have no obligation to pay penalty fees.
The five of us absolutely do not want others to be harmed by the termination of the exclusive contract. We intend to faithfully fulfill all contractual obligations that were established between ADOR and others prior to the termination date.
This decision by the five of us was made after much deliberation. The five of us can no longer remain with ADOR, which fails to fulfill its basic obligation of protecting its artists, and maintaining the exclusive contract would only cause us extreme mental anguish. Thus, the five of us have reached the conclusion that we have no choice but to leave ADOR. Additionally, the five of us have been hurt and shocked by the countless media manipulations based on false information over time. We hope that such situations will not occur after the termination of the exclusive contract.
The five of us will continue to do our best to bring you good music. We would be grateful if you would watch over and support our future endeavors.
