Big Hit Entertainment Acquires Source Music
Big Hit Entertainment (Big Hit), the agency of BTS, has acquired Source Music, home to the idol group GFRIEND.
On the 29th, Big Hit announced, “We have recently completed the acquisition of Source Music shares and will incorporate it as a subsidiary. Source Music plans to retain its existing management and continue operating while maintaining its label identity and independence.” Source Music is an entertainment agency founded in 2009 and is home to the idol group GFRIEND.
Big Hit plans to accelerate the debut of a new girl group. Earlier on the 1st, Big Hit recruited Min Heejin, former executive director at SM Entertainment who led the creative direction for idol groups such as Girls’ Generation and f(x), as Chief Brand Officer (CBO). CBO Min is planning to lead the debut of new girl groups at multiple labels including Source Music, excluding the Big Hit label. Big Hit stated, “Through this acquisition, we have quickly secured artists who already have established fandoms in the girl group category as well as trainees with high potential, thereby broadening our artist spectrum,” adding, “This acquisition has strengthened our multi-label structure.”
