[NOTICE] Update on Legal Proceedings Regarding Infringement of Artist Rights (Dec. 27)
Hello. This is ADOR.
We are taking regular legal action against authors of malicious posts targeting NewJeans, including defamation, insult, sexual harassment, malicious slander, and the use of derogatory terms. We would like to provide an update on the major progress regarding this matter.
First, as a result of our existing legal actions, legal penalties are being imposed for various criminal acts. A fine of several million won has been finalized by the Supreme Court for an individual who distributed and sold fabricated obscene photos created by combining the artists’ portraits. In addition, fines have been sentenced in multiple cases against defendants who wrote insulting comments of a severe level. Furthermore, we inform you that even in cases where malicious posts were written anonymously, suspects have been identified, and multiple police investigations and legal procedures are currently underway.
Moreover, we have extensively collected evidentiary materials regarding acts infringing upon the artists’ rights through valuable reports from fans and our own real-time monitoring, and have filed criminal complaints with investigative agencies against numerous authors of malicious posts. We have included in the complaints all those who wrote posts mocking the artists’ nationality and appearance and insulting them using derogatory terms, as well as those who wrote posts and comments sexually objectifying or disparaging the artists. The subjects of the complaints include all those who spread false facts, committed insults, sexual harassment, and wrote other malicious posts and comments on domestic and international platforms (DC Inside, Ilgan Best, Naver, YouTube, etc.).
In the process of legal response regarding the infringement of artist rights, we are responding sternly under a zero-tolerance policy. We will continue to secure evidence thoroughly through real-time monitoring of all domestic and international channels and proceed with strong legal measures to hold the perpetrators accountable to the very end, even if it takes time.
The interest and reports from fans are of great help in our legal response. We ask for your active reporting through the Integrated Reporting Center (https://protect.hybecorp.com) for the protection of artist rights, newly opened last September.
We are always grateful for the fans’ affection and dedication toward NewJeans. ADOR will continue to strive to protect the rights and honor of our artists.
Thank you.
