CEO Min Hee-jin Mentions Label Launch
In July 2019, news broke that “Min Heejin, K-pop’s leading creative director, has joined Big Hit Entertainment.” Many people have been curious about what exactly you’ve been doing at Big Hit since then.
Min Heejin: When I joined, I was given three main tasks, or assignments, you could say. First was to complete the company’s rebranding project. Second was to launch a girl group. Third was to launch Min Heejin’s own label.
Each of those three things carries such significant impact that I’m already sensing something extraordinary (laughs). Your own label? K-pop fans’ social media is going to go wild.
Separate from the girl group launch, I’m working on a label that I will lead. I’ve had a strong desire to plan and produce albums the way I want, including the music itself. I’ve been doing this work for 20 years now, and I have an ambition to throw an interesting topic into the entertainment industry based on my own insights. There will be another opportunity to talk about this.
I remember the Big Hit Entertainment corporate briefing held about a year ago. At that time, it was announced that a girl group would debut in 2021.
Since the “Plus Global Audition” that started in fall 2019, things have been progressing intensively up to now. When that audition had just opened, I ran into our company’s Global CEO Seok-jun in the hallway, and he told me something funny. He said he burst out laughing after seeing a comment about the audition content that said, “Even if you watch it while rolling around on the floor, it’s unmistakably Min Heejin”… I cracked up too.
